Essay About Experiences That Changed Life

Using a frame story for the introduction and conclusion should be familiar to you from lots of movies. One good example of a story frame is UP. In this case, the movie opens with the frame of Carl looking at the scrapbook Ellie has made for him about their life and dreams, before flashing to the present story of Carl and Russell and their adventures. The movie returns to the frame at the end of the movie as Carl looks at the last page of the photobook Ellie has made for him. He learns that it was the journey of the relationship which was the real adventure.

Another kind of frame can be a flashback. In this technique, you start in the middle of the action (or after it is over) and then flashback to an earlier memory. The Notebook uses the story of a man spending time with his wife with Alzheimer's as the frame for his re-telling the story of their romance.

The advantage of using a frame is that it makes it easier for you to talk about the meaning of the story, especially if you use the present day to flashback to the past. Be sure the frame is not just random. There should be an event, object, conversation, or situation which causes you to flash back in memory.

An Essay on a Life Changing Moment

Essay writing entails structuring it in three core parts namely:

  • introduction,
  • body,
  • and conclusion.

In the introduction, you introduce your piece by stating the main thesis statement. In the body, you provide three follow-up points to support your thesis statement. In conclusion, you conclude by saying what the argument has shown. The structure provides the writer with a simple platform to avail points to argue for his thesis point of view. The structure suits perfectly short essays.

Is this topic difficult or easy task to write?

Writing a narrative paper about something that changed your life provides an avenue for the writer to express his personal account on the event that transformed his/her life. Talking about your experience may sound easy, but what about putting the same in writing? Let me be clear narrating is not writing. Image writing about that night you were terrified: the tremor, the feeling at that time, how to chronological structure your essay to effectively tell the reader what you went through. Would you? The other challenge part of telling life changing story is to trust the listener or to ascertain that indeed the audience would be changed by your story.

How to start

introduce your reader to your piece with a captivating hook. Let the reader’s first interaction with the story be the main theme of you writing the story. Imagine starting with a statement like, “that instance made me not to be the same again.” The reader’s attention would be drawn to ascertain how that case changed you forever. Then create the picture for the reader. Make the story’s purpose at the introduction stage. Define the purpose of the project whether you learned the hard way or it was a growth opportunity.  The main idea is introduced in the first paragraph.

Body paragraphs

The story would look more natural if you include dialogue. You should not jumble dialogues into your story. Remember dialogue makes the story natural and easy to relate to, so try to make dialogue as an integral part of your story.

Chronological or structure of the story matters too. Identify the key experience and make it your point of reference. In developing the point of reference determine the state before, during the experience and after the experience. For instance, you can draft your work in three sentences:

  1. I had never known that…
  2. But then it happened.
  3. From there onwards I never have…

Do not be afraid of the story you want to explore, the transition is what matters to the reader. On your prewriting just list the events and let the three sentences guide you at which stage does the event fit.

Perspective change is also a key factor to writing about a life changing the narrative. This change is brought about by duration from experience. Shorter duration aligns your experience to the instant reactions, but perspective may change drastically with time. For instance, in the event of a break-up, the immediate reaction would be to feel betrayed. With time, however, you start to appreciate that the experience was meant to make you stronger.

In choosing your topic, ascertain if your current perspective about the story is what you want your reader to know.

Choice of topic persona is pivotal in shaping the story.  In writing a story about you like the persona, your audience may experience the transition of stages from the story you chose, or you may give a perspective that illustrates the changes. On this account, you will be sharing your perspective about the story, not the people. For instance, your article is about an individual who had a broken marriage and how his/her life changed, you have to tell the reader how the story changed you not how the person changed.

How to conclude an essay on a life changing moment

At this stage you have to let your reader restated by the purpose you begun with at the introductory paragraph. For instance, I will summarize this article by stating that a life changing story is a narrative that explains a writer’s transition from pre-experience through experience to post-experience. The structure of such an essay includes a starting paragraph, body, and a closing paragraph.

Tips on final revision of your story:

•    Get a peer to go through your work.

•    Check the flow of the story and clarify everything.

•    Do the standard punctuation, grammar and paragraph checking.
